Confession Time

Before I get into my absolute favorite energizing Beet Juice Recipe, I wanted to talk about something a tad bit personal.

I mentioned on my Instagram and Facebook post yesterday that I had made some life-altering changes about a month ago and I wanted to go ahead and go into detail about what those are. Some of you may have noticed that my juice and smoothie game has really amped up and energy levels have been through the roof! My workouts have been better, my skin is blemish-free and glowing, my productivity levels are at an all-time high, and all of my headaches have disappeared!

What Is My Secret?!

I am 100% Caffeine and Alcohol Free!

You are probably thinking….”This chick is crazy” and that is exactly what I thought when I started, but I HAD to start. The caffeine addictions were getting a little out of hand and every time I felt a little tired or unable to motivate myself, I would tip in the espresso and wait for the rush to kick in. Nights were filled with headaches, body aches, and I was so over-exhausted that I could not sleep. I found myself staying up until 1 to 2 in the morning with zero energy to do work; I became a sort of zombie.

Zombie Life Sucks

This addiction had to go and so I did what I’m best at, I quit that sucker COLD TURKEY. Yep, the first week was so hard, I cannot even begin to tell you how miserable I felt. I supplemented with some magnesium capsules and lots of fresh juice like the one I am showing you today. Exhaustion was so bad that I ended up sleeping during my son’s nap time and then passing out right when they went to bed for the night and not waking up (or even moving) until they woke me up in the morning (12 hours later). I was convinced I had made the biggest mistake and was about to quit until the 8th day…

That 8th Day Was Everything

The 8th day arrives and I was up and ready to go at 5 in the morning with so much energy I did not know what to do with myself! Did Martin pour caffeine down my throat while I was sleeping? This energy felt so much different than what I was used to…I felt like I was 5 years old and ready to hit the park with all of my friends. I was actually smiling at 5 in the morning (something I hadn’t done in years).

After a good laugh out loud, I  said “There you are old friend” and grabbed my Kindle and sat outside in the chilly morning air and read my books for 3 hours until the boys woke up… I was back!

So…what about the Alcohol?

A couple of weeks after I kicked caffeine to the curb, Martin’s sister came to stay with us and we all went to a very fun 20’s theme party. The drinks were top notch, the outfits were amazing, and my feet were killing me within 20 minutes of walking in (I should also mention that heels are also no longer part of my life).

3 gin and tonics later…

The worst hangover of my life.

I didn’t want to move, I didn’t want to parent, I didn’t want to look outside, I didn’t want to work, I didn’t want to breathe…I just did not want to do anything.

You know what else I didn’t want?

To touch alcohol ever again.

I’ve Heard That Before!

How many times have you said this or heard someone else say this? Tons, I’m sure! The difference with this time vs the other times is that I decided to make a goal, a plan, and a promise to myself.

Goal: Stay Alcohol-Free for your health, your family, your productivity, your happiness, and your sanity.

Plan: Get Martin on board (He already does not drink), hold myself accountable, keep virgin drink recipes handy, and find a circle of non-drinking women on social media to follow and gain inspiration from.

A Promise to Myself: You can do this. You birthed twins and started a business when they were 4 months old and your depression was through the roof. You can do anything.

  • 1 large beet Washed/Peeled/Diced
  • 2 medium-sized apples cored and diced
  • 5 carrots peeled and diced

  • If using a juicer, simply add all ingredients to juicer, strain (I like to keep the pulp in mine so I use a mesh-strainer but you can use a nut milk bag for zero pulp), mix and enjoy! Drink fresh for best nutrients.
  • If using a blender, add all ingredients and blend on high. You may need to add 1/4-1/2 cup water or apple juice to get the ball rolling. Once blended smooth, use a mesh-strainer or nut milk bag. Drink fresh for best nutrients!
